Ice diving course - eventually!!!
Yes! It happened! Can you believe it? After three years without ice, finally, this year the conditions seemed to become really good for an ice diving course. But obviously not everyone like sea ice, so all sorts of ice breaking vessel were frequent visitors during the entire season, crunching and breaking happliy the ice away. Anyone ever wondered why every ugly piece of junk on land is protected, resulting in amazing fines if you happen to put up your tent to close to them - while this amazing feature called sea ice is treated as a failure of nature which we should get rid of? Anyway, we managed. We really did! 6 enthusiasts participated in the ice diving course this winter, and gathered some insight in how do dive in an overhead environment in a safe manner. Only the ice did not exaclty behave the way it was supposed to. The smallest ice floe we were diving from had approx 10 x 10 m to start with, and 2 x 2 to end with. And it was a more a combined ice-drift-dive, but who cares? We had fun... If I figure out how things work in this new CMS that I just installed on the server, there is a chance that you might find a picture gallery here as well at some point. Thanks everyone for a nice course! /D
